Sloane’s Champions Spotlight Night & Frog Monitoring Experience

  • Corowa Men's Shed (map)

It’s time for the annual Sloane’s Champions Spotlight Night!

Focused on the threatened Sloane’s Froglet (Crinia sloanei) and its conservation in our region, join Corowa District Landcare and NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s Dave Hunter (Senior Threatened Species Officer) for this informative evening and spotlight walk around the Whitehead Street Wetland.

As well as the main event, we’re excited to announce a special add-on session inviting tertiary students (NRM, ecology, environmental science), early-career practitioners and frog enthusiasts to join DCCEEW for their annual frog survey around Corowa.

Session 1 – Community Session

(6:00pm to 8:30pm)

A relaxed, family-friendly session. Begin your evening with a light dinner and learn about the Sloane’s Froglet and other local frog species.

Be introduced to the Sloane’s Champions citizen science project and learn how to use the FrogID app to record frog calls.

The session concludes with a guided spotlight walk around the Whitehead Street Wetland to look for frogs.

This session is held indoors and on accessible concrete paths around the wetlands.

Session 2 – Frog Monitoring with NSW DCCEEW (9:00pm to midnight/1:00am)

An optional, small-group field session limited to 15 people for those wanting an in-depth, in the field experience. Join NSW DCCEEW ecologists to visit local wetland sites and gain hands-on experience in frog survey techniques, habitat assessment, and water quality monitoring. Suited to students, early-career practitioners, and those with a strong interest in frog conservation and field-based monitoring.

Bookings are essential.

Please note, we will car pool from the Men’s Shed and return to this location after monitoring.

Accessibility notes: Uneven/wet/boggy terrain and walking in the dark

What to bring: Headlamp/torch and smartphone (if available); warm clothing and enclosed footwear
